Within the European project "Leonardo da Vinci Transitional Project" ([Ref#I/96/2/1229/P/II.1.1c)/FPI entitled "Multimedia Training paths in the field of Safety and Health"), the Health and Safety Department of Bordeaux I's Technical Institute (I.U.T H.S.E. de Bordeaux I) and the Laboratory of Analysis for System Failures (L.A.D.S.), in partnership with the "Consorzio Milano Ricerche" of Italy, wish to present the results of their joint research, a Methodology for Analysing System Failures (known as M.A.D.S.: Méthodologie d'Analyse des Dysfonctionnements des Systèmes).
The aim of such research has been to contribute towards the conception of a Science of Danger. The following pages put forward the problems and methodology needed in order to proceed in analysing system malfunctions. After establishing a possible definition of Science of Danger, a systemic problematic will be suggested and will serve as a basis towards this study on the analysis of malfunctions in complex systems.
